New building to house Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies

The centre has set up a new building in the capital to house the office of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, giving a big boost to the cooperative movement in the country, especially in the light of the failure of state governments to ensure orderly growth of cooperatives.

Union minister of home and cooperation Amit Shah will inaugurate the new building at the World Trade Centre in New Delhi on Wednesday.

So far, a total of 1,625 multi-state cooperatives are registered across the country with millions of members associated with them. The new building is expected to help in the smooth functioning of the Central Registrar’s Office

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri initiatives and guidance of Cooperation Minister, several steps have been taken for strengthening of Office of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, after the formation of the Ministry of Cooperation. These include,

The Narendra Modi government has taken various initiatives, including the amendment of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002 and Rules, launch of a 'digital portal' of the Central Registrar’s Office, formation of a 'Cooperative Election Authority' to conduct fair and transparent elections to multi-state cooperative societies besides the formation of 2 panels of auditors for multi-state cooperative societies. 

Further, the centre has prepared a template of bye-laws for multi-state cooperative societies, issued orders for the appointment of cooperative information officer in multi-state cooperative societies, creation of CRCS portal for better collection and utilisation of funds of CEF (Cooperative Education Fund), creation of the post of 'Ombudsman' for redressal of complaints, provision of guidance and assistance to encourage the registration of multi-state cooperative societies and establishment of a separate administrative structure in the office.
