UGC names 24 fake universities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the list of fake universities. The list has a total of 24 fake universities spread across the country.

These universities are not empowered to confer any degree, as per the Commission. The list includes 7 universities in Delhi and 8 in Uttar Pradesh, accounting for a majority of institutions declared as fake by the Commission.
As per the statement released by the commission, these 24 self-styled, unrecognised institutions are functioning in contravention of the UGC Act, and are not empowered to confer any degree.

UGC has also directed the universities of India to begin with the new academic session from 1 November 2020. The first-year classes for undergraduate and postgraduate courses will begin in November 2020. The varsities have been asked to wrap up the admission schedule by 30 November.
