DP World completes Phase 1 expansion at Spanish port Tarragona

Global marine terminal operator DP World on Monday announced the successful completion of the first phase of expansion of its Spanish terminal, DP World Tarragona.

The terminal has three super post-Panamax cranes capable of handling vessels with a nominal capacity of over 13,800 TEU (twenty foot equivalent) container units. The port has currently two Panamax cranes and harbour crane that are already in use and the new cranes would boost the terminal's overall efficiency.

The new facility has a mooring line of over 800 m and a rail terminal.

The new yard and cranes have transformed Tarragona from a small terminal in development to a modern, efficient facility capable of handling the world's largest ships. With the growth of Tarragona will also come new opportunities for the local communities and economies," Mohammed Sharaf, chief executive of DP World, said at the commissioning of the new quay, yard and cranes.
