CCEA approves highway projects worth Rs8,600-cr under PPP route

The government on Thursday approved highway projects worth over Rs8,600 crore, to be undertaken on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis, across the states of Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given its approval to four highway projects, including six-laning of  the Chakeri-Allahabad section and the Handia-Varanasi section of National Highway-2 in Uttar Pradesh, six laning of Baleshwar-Chandikhole section of National Highway-5 in Odisha and  four/six laning of Raipur-Bilaspur section of National Highway-30/NH-130 in Chhatisgarh. 

The six laning of 145km stretch of the Chakeri-Allahabad section of National Highway-2 in Uttar Pradesh is estimated to coast Rs1,999.85 crore, while the six-laning of a 72.4 km stretch of the Handia-Varanasi section of the highway, also in Uttar Pradesh, is estimated to cost Rs2,378.59 crore.

These projects will help expedite improvement of infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh and also in reducing the time and cost of travel for traffic.

The six-laning of the 137 km Baleshwar-Chandikhole section of National Highway-5 in Odisha is estimated to cost Rs2,296.82 crore.

The four/six laning of the 127-km Raipur-Bilaspur section of National Highway-30/NH-130  in Chhattisgarh is estimated to cost Rs1,963.88 crore.

The National Highways Development Project (NHDP) will undertake work for these projects under the Phase-V of highway development.

These projects, to be built on a `Build-Operate-Transfer ' (BOT) (Toll) mode on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (BOT/DBFOT) basis, are to be completed under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-V.
