Toll tax on all national highways suspended till 11 November

The central government has suspended toll collection on all national highways across the country till midnight of Friday (11 November), following the government's decision to ban Rs1,000 and Rs500 notes from midnight on Tuesday (8 November 2016), minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said.

In the wake of the decision to ban Rs500 and Rs1,000 bank notes, government has suspended collection of toll taxes across all national highways till midnight og 11 November to ensure smooth passage of traffic, Gadkari said.

Earlier in the day, the National Highway Authority of India had issued an instruction to all toll plazas on highways to accept currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations till the midnight of 11.11.2016

The NHAI issued orders in order to avoid difficulties that may be faced by the highway users.

Massive traffic jams at almost all highways were witnessed across the country today following an announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that currency denominations of Rs500 and Rs1,000 will no longer be legal tender from 12.00 am midnight on Tuesday.

Earlier today, the National Highway Authority of India issued an instruction to all toll plazas on highways to accept currency notes of Rs500 and Rs1,000 denominations till the midnight of 11 November 2016. The NHAI issued orders in order to avoid difficulties that highway users may face.
