List of agreements signed between India and Japan during PM’s visit

Japan announced joining the International Solar Alliance (ISA) submitting the instrument of ratification on 29 October 2018. As of now, 70 countries have signed the ISA Framework Agreement (ISA FA) and 47 countries have ratified it. Japan will be the 71st country to sign and 48th country to ratify the ISA FA.

The two countries exchanged notes concerning the provision of seven Yen loan (involving total loan provision of up to 316.458 billion yen), for various projects including the construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail, renovation and modernisation of Umiam-Umtru Stage-III Hydroelectric Power Station, Delhi Mass Rapid Transport System Project (Phase 3), North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project, construction of Turga Pumped Storage, construction of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road and Project for Sustainable catchment forest management in Tripura.
Under the defence and strategic cooperation agreement, the two countries will be implementing arrangement for deeper cooperation between Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force and Indian Navy.
India’s ministry of electronics and information technology and Japan’s ministry of economy, trade and industry also signed a memorandum of cooperation on Japan-India Digital Partnership,
To tap into the synergies and complementarities between Japan’s "Society 5.0” and India’s flagship programmes like "Digital India”, "Smart City” and "Start-up India” in areas of next generation technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), and IoT (Internet of Things), etc.

India’s ministry of food processing and industries and Japan’s mnistry of agriculture, forestry and fisheries will cooperate in the field of food processing industry, which aims at developing India’s food processing industry with involvement of relevant stakeholders such as local governments, private companies, etc.
Japanese companies will invest in food value chain in India.
The Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India and NEXI of Japan will cooperate in stimulating trade and investment between India and Japan and strengthening cooperation in projects in third countries.
The two sides also signed a memorandum of cooperation in postal and communications field under which India’s ministry of communications and Japan’s ministry of internal affairs and communications will strengthen cooperation.
India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Hiroshima University of Japan signed a MoU for research partnership under which the two will promote research partnership in areas such as electronics, sensors, high speed vision, robotics, advanced manufacturing, including mechatronics, environmental research, intelligent transportation, etc.
CSIR also signed MoUs with Research Centre for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST) of The University of Tokyo, Japan to promote research partnership in areas like renewable energy, electronics (including robotics/IoT), advanced materials, etc.
Another agreement for cooperation between CSIR and Institute of Innovative Research, Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), Japan has also been signed for joint research in interdisciplinary areas for application in industrial research in areas such as advanced materials, bioscience and information technologies.
India and Japan signed an MoU to promote greater cooperation between the two countries for protection and improvement of environment.
An MoU has been signed between India’s National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) and Shizuoka University, Japan for academic and research exchanges.
NIPER also signed an MoU with Shizuoka University to promote academic linkages between the two. 
An MoU signed between Nagasaki University and IIITDM Kancheepuram aims to further cooperation toward Indo-Japan global startup programmes, information technology and human resources development.
Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad and Hiroshima University, Japan signed a memorandum of understanding on academic and educational exchange, joint research promotion and exchange of students and faculties between the two institutions.
Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad and Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology signed an MoU for joint research promotion and exchange of students and faculties between the two institutions.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the University of Tsukuba, Japan signed an MoU to strengthen cooperation in the field of sports development and excellence through joint programmes.

Government to business and business to business agreements include an MoU between KAGOME Co, Ltd, Japan and India’s ministry of food processing industries; joint venture agreement between State Bank of India (SBI) and SBI Payment Services Pvt Ltd and Hitachi Payment Services Pvt Ltd; MoU between Nissan Steel Industry Co Ltd, Japan and India’s ministry of food processing industries; letter of intents and acknowledgements of private sector investment proposals by 57 Japanese companies to make investment in India and 15 Indian companies to make investment in Japan, supported by both governments.
