An unlikely participant at the ongoing Delhi Auto Show is specialty steel long products maker Mukand Ltd.

The company manufactures a wide range of products in sizes ranging from 5.5 mm to 150 mm in the form of wires, bright bars, wire rods and bars.

The company says that 80 per cent of the long, special and alloy steel that it makes feeds into the Indian automobile sector for making critical parts such as engine components, power train, transmission components, suspension and steering components, fuel injection systems, bearings, among others.

"Mukand is an approved supplier for specialty steels to several global OEMs," says Rajesh V Shah, chairman and managing director, Mukand Ltd.

The company says that every kilogram of special and alloy steel that it makes is as per the exact chemical and physical composition for each component that manufacturers specify.

To keep pace with the expected auto boom and the expected emergence of the country as a hub for auto manufacture, Mukand has undertaken a capex programme to increase its steel making capacity. It already has manufacturing facilities in Mumbai, Maharashtra and Hospet in Karnataka

Niraj Bajaj chairman and managing director, Mukand Ltd., says that the 25 hnew launches at this year's auto expo can only mean more business for Mukand.
