About 1,200 celebrities attend Asian Television Awards 2002

Singapore: More than 1,200 celebrities from Asia’s television and film industries attended the 7th Annual Asian Television Awards gala ceremony held in Singapore yesterday night.

Awards in 29 categories were made at the live televised ceremony held at the National University of Singapore Cultural Centre. The show will be aired in 11 countries across the region.

Among the celebrities who attended this year’s awards was Hong Kong comedy sensation Stephen Chow, who presented the Terrestrial Channel of the Year Award to SPH MediaWorks’ Channel U (Singapore).

Taiwanese actress Lee Sin-Je, who won the Best Leading Actress Award at this year’s 39th Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan, was also on the star-studded guest list. Lee presented the Best Drama Performance by an actor to one of Taiwan’s best-known personalities, Kou Shih Hsun, for his role in the drama series The Orange Rouged (Public Television Service, Taiwan).

The awards show featured performances by Taiwan’s PowerStation (Dong Li Huo Che), the Philippines’ singing sensation Regine Velasquez (who starred in One Night with Regine, which won the Best Music Programme Award), the Philippines’ singer and actress Aiza Seguerra (who won best Drama Performance by an Actress), and Malaysia’s hit singer Camelia.

About 119 programmes and performances from 12 countries were nominated this year. The entries were assessed by 49 judges from 11 countries sitting on seven juries held across the region. Here is the list of awards:
