Aircel, Airtel to launch iPhone4 services soon; no word from Vodafone

11 Apr 2011

Both Bharti Airtel Ltd and Aircel Ltd today announced the launch of Apple's iPhone4 smart phone services in the next few months, as telecom companies start rolling out third-generation (3G) services.

However, in their separate releases, neither company specified when the services would be launched, or what they would cost.

Vodafone, which along with Airtel was the first to launch 3G services, has made no announcement as yet on supporting iPhone 4, which is of course touted as having even better capabilities than the previous version.

The iPhone4 is certainly sleeker than the iPhone 3 – considerably slimmer, it comes with 3.5 inch display and 640x960 pixel resolution. It packs Apple's latest mobile operating system iOS 4. Among other things, the new OS boasts features like multitasking, spell-check, folders, and iBook capability.

The iPhone 4 also has multitasking, which means the phone will be able to run more than one programme at a time. Connectivity options include wi-fi, Bluetooth, HDMI and GPS.

Reviews say iPhone 4 has better battery life compared to its predecessors. The device promises 7 hours of 3G talk time, 6 hours of 3Gbrowsing, 10 hours of wi-fi browsing, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music playback.
