Ambika Soni to inaugurate adventure tourism convention

Union minister for tourism and culture Ambika Soni will inaugurate the sixth annual convention of adventure tour operators association of India (ATOAI) on 17 December 2007 at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation in New Delhi.

Considered as the single largest forum for promoting adventure tourism, the convention will focus on marketing the adventure tourism segment to an upscale tourism category in India. A seminar on good field practices, adventure operations and environmental issues, such as providing the perfect adventure trip, choosing the right adventure gear, marketing adventure tourism and upgrading the knowledge and skills of those who are related to the industry.

The prime focus of this convention is to create widespread awareness about the multi-dimensional face of the Indian tourism sector. It seeks to promote India as one of the most exciting Adventure Tourism destinations in the world and intends focusing on the innumerable adventure and eco-tourism opportunities in the country.

Soni will release a special 30-second television commercial on adventure tourism and also release the report on the Incredible India campaign during 2007.

Adventure travel is a growing segment of the travel industry as India has varying terrain ranging from snow-covered mountains, glaciers, ski slopes, freshwater fishing, wildlife, and coastlines. Soni is keen on developing interest in adventure travel both for the domestic and international travellers.

The convention is aimed at attracting international and domestic and participation in the rapidly growing adventure travel segment.
