And now, Czech authorities find horse meat in Ikea’s Swedish meatballs

The horsemeat ball is becoming bigger and bigger with Czech veterinary authorities now detecting horse meat in meat balls imported to the country by Swedish furniture retailer Ikea.

Reports quoting the Czech Republic's State Veterinary Administration said traces of horse meat were detected in one-kg packs of frozen meat balls, labelled as beef and pork, to be sold through Ikea's furniture stores.

Ikea also sells typical Swedish food at its furniture outlets across the world.

The report said authorities in the Czech Republic have stopped a total of 760 kg of the meat balls from reaching the shelves in local Ikea stores.

Earlier, the Czech authorities had found horse meat in beef burgers imported from Poland as also in Lasagna Bolognese made by frozen food processor Tavola SA Comigel and sold at British retailer Tesco.

Lasagna Bolognese consists of layers of flat noodles baked with alternating layers of slow-cooked Bolognese sauce - a meat-based sauce.
