Bharti Teletech bags order from BSNL

Sunil Mittal-promoted Bharti Group firm Bharti Teletech, that makes telecom handsets under the Beetel brand, has been awarded a Rs35-crore contract by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to manufacture over 9 lakh fixed line phones CLIP phones for BSNL over a period of five months.

Announcing the contract win, Sunil K Goyal, CEO, Bharti Teletech, said, this contract was poised to go beyond supply of landline phones, "as BSNL intends to procure Blackberry handsets through Bharti Teletech."

The phones will be manufactured at the company's manufacturing facility in Ludhiana where it recently invested over Rs5 crore to raise capacityby establishing a new production line and enhance its quality processes.

After the investment; the Ludhiana unit has an annual production capacity of 5 million phones from where it supplies  customer premise equipment to more than 30 international telecom companies and Indian telecom operators.

The company's Ludhiana unit, which manufactures telephone instruments under Beetel brand, was set up in 1987 has achieved a component insertion capacity of 14,300 components per shift and produces a record 42 phones per person, higher than its Chinese rivals.

The ISO 9000 state-of-the-art Ludhiana plant, houses a calibration and reliability lab, an incoming component control lab and a paint shop. The three-stage production section is divided into three parts - the plastic and general engineering section, the printer circuit board assembly section and the final assembly section.
