CareFusion Corporation, a healthcare products and service provider in the US, has agreed to acquire privately held Medegen, a leading innovator in clinically differentiated needleless access valves and administration sets that deliver intravenous (IV) medication to patients, for $225 million in cash.

San Diego, California-based CareFusion is a medical technology company that provides various healthcare products and services in the US and internationally.

It operates in two segments, Critical Care Technologies, and Medical Technologies and Services. The Critical Care Technologies segment develops, manufactures, and markets equipment and related supplies for infusion, medication and supply dispensing, and respiratory care products.

The Medical Technologies and Services company develops market-leading technologies, including Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis automated dispensing and patient identification systems.

CareFusion is making its first acquisition after it was spun off from drug wholesaler Cardinal Health Inc in September 2009.

CareFusion is aiming at expanding into the $2 billion global market for needleless access valves and administration sets.
