The facilities have a potential to generate direct employment for 54,000 people and indirect employment to 162,000, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corp (DSIIDC) chairman Chetan Sanghi said in a statement on Sunday.

The IT SEZ would provide direct employment to 36,000 people while the jeweler facility would provide direct employment to 18,000 people. The potential for indirect employment generation of the two SEZs are 108,000 for IT and 54,000 of for jewelry, according to Sanghi.

Sanghi added that the central government had permitted the DSIIDC to go ahead with the projects costing approximately Rs785 crore.

The proposed SEZs would come up on 67.4 acres of land in Baprola in northwest Delhi, of which the gold and jewellery SEZ would take up 41.4 acres.
