India’s coal production up 8% at 638.46 million tonnes in April-Feb FY19

Coal production in India during April-February 2018-19 stood at 638.46 million tonnes, which is 8 per cent higher compared to 591.42 million tonnes of coal produced during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Coal India Limited (CIL) reported coal production of 527.70 million tonnes during April-February 2018-19 compared to production of 495.08 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year - a growth rate of 6.6 per cent. CIL had fixed a coal production target of 610 million tonnes for the whole of 2018-19 (April-March).
During April-February 2018-19, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) recorded coal production of 57.94 million tonnes compared to 54.64 million tonnes produced during the corresponding period of the previous year - a growth rate of 6 per cent. SCCl had fixed a production target of 65.00 million tonnes for 2018-19.
Production target for captive coal mines was fixed at 40 million tonnes for 2018-19. Coal production from captive mines during April-February 2018-19 was 44.41 million tonnes compared to 33.76 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year - a growth rate of 31.6 per cent. Captive mines have already achieved the year’s production target by February 2019.
Coal production target of other mines was fixed at 15.00 million tonnes for 2018-19. Production at these mines during April-February 2018-19 was 8.40 million tonnes compared to 7.94 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year - a growth rate of 5.8 per cent year-on-year.
