India's telephone subscriber base swells by 9.06 million in July

Mumbai: Total telephone subscriber base (wireline and wireless) in the country grew by 9.06 million during July 2008 as compared to 8.81 million connections added in June 2008.

Wireline subscriber base showed a negative growth, falling 0.16 million during the month, taking the overall growth in numbers down to 9.06 million despite an addition of 9.22 million wireless subscribers.

The total number of telephone connections reached 334.84 million at the end of July 2008 as compared to 325.78 million in June 2008.

The overall tele-density rose to 29.08 per cent as of end-July 2008 as against 28.33 per cent in June 2008.

The total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & WLL(F)) base stood at 296.08 million at the end of July 2008.

A total of 9.22 million wireless subscribers have been added during July 2008 as against 8.94 million wireless subscribers added during June.

In the wireline segment, the subscriber base has slightly decreased to 38.76 million in July 2008 as against 38.92 million subscribers in June 2008.
