India to invest Rs1,05,000 crore to install 10 N-power plants

The government on Wednesday said it has granted approval for installation of ten nuclear power plants across the country, with a combined capacity of 7,000 MW, in a bid to give a big push to renewable power generation in the country. 

The government has accorded administrative approval and financial sanction for 10 indigenous pressurised heavy water reactors of 700 MW each in fleet mode.
These include the 2x700 MW capacity Kaiga 5 and 6 units in Karnataka, 2x700 MW GHAVP– 3 and 4 units in Gorakhpur, Haryana, 2x700 MW Chutka-1 and 2 in Chutka Madhya Pradesh,  2x700 Mahi Banswara 4 units) in Rajastan.
In a statement laid on the floor of the floor of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday minister of state (independent charge) science and technology; earth sciences; PMO, personnel, public grievances, pensions, atomic energy and space, Dr Jitendra Singh stated that the installation of the atomic reactors would be done by6 public sector units of specialized government agencies.  
The government has accorded administrative approval and financial sanction for 10 indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors of 700 MW each in fleet mode. The details are as follows:
The government has amended the Atomic Energy Act in 2015 to enable joint ventures of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) with public sector enterprises to set up nuclear power projects.
These reactors are planned to be set up in ‘fleet mode’ progressively by the year 2031 at a cost of Rs1,05,000 crore.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh today informed that 
The minister said that nuclear power reactors generated 47,112 million units of electricity, comprising about 3.15 per cent of the total electricity generated in the country during 2021-22.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Dr Jitendra Singh said the present installed nuclear power capacity will increase from 6,780 MW to 22,480 MW by 2031 on progressive completion of projects under construction and accorded sanction, adding that the government has also accorded ‘in principle’ approval for new sites to set up nuclear reactors in future.
He said these include the 2x700 MW  KAPP-3 and 4 units in Kakrapar, Gujarat ; 2x700 MW units of Kakrapar N-power plant in Rawatbhata in Rajastan; 2x 1,000 MW (3,4,5,6 units) of KKNPP in Kudankulam, Tamil Nadu; 500 MW unit of PFBR in Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu; the 2x700 MW GHAVP-1 and 2 units in Gorakhpur, Haryana.
