Instant Pot warns of melting electric cookers

23 Feb 2018

Makers of Instant Pot, the popular plug-in pressure cooker said some models are "overheating, resulting in localised melting damage to the underside of the product."
The company posted to the Instant Pot Community Facebook group, that has received "a small number of reports" of the issue affecting the Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker.

"We are asking all our customers with a Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker from batchcodes 1728, 1730, 1731, 1734, and 1746 to immediately stop use of the product," Instant Pot said.

But customers are not particularly happy with the company's response.
"It's not a few customers tho," wrote one commenter on the post. "There are countless people who have been waiting MONTHS since receiving this message as an email."

The comments have been turned off after five comments were posted, but the post has been shared over 250 times.

The company added, it "anticipates providing updated information and next steps regarding receiving a replacement Gem 65 8-in-1 Multicooker within the next few weeks."

Malfunctioning home cooking appliances that pose a danger have become a subject of much discussion, after the dad in NBC's family tearjerker "This Is Us," died in the Super Bowl episode, a direct result of a shorting out second-hand slow cooker.

In its post to the Instant Pot Community, the company has warned users to keep a close eye on their countertop cooking devices.

The company advised customers to ''locate the 4-digit number located at the bottom right of the label. The batchcode is the 4-digit number located at the bottom right of the label.''

''We want you to know that we take any problem with our products extremely seriously as safety and quality are our primary concern, and we are working cooperatively with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC),'' the statement continued, adding that those who own a product from one of the faulty batches should ''immediately stop use of the product.''
