KFC stores in UK reopen on “limited menu” after supply failure

23 Feb 2018

KFC is trying to recoup some business by reopening 70 per cent of stores having a ''limited menu'' after hundreds of branches in the UK were left without any chicken due to a delivery failure.

However, angry food lovers are not happy that many of their favourite dishes are missing. A lot of the stores that are open have limited offerings and shortened hours and hungry chicken lovers are disappointed.

Less than impressed customers have reported outlets with no popcorn chicken, burritos, gravy, beans, sweetcorn, tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, fruit juice and water.

Angry customers have called on the firm to keep shops shut until they are fully stocked.

In a statement KFC said, ''Deliveries are winging their way around the country right now.''

Meanwhile an enterprising Brighton man is looking to cash in on the KFC crisis by selling £10 bargain buckets for £100 on Facebook.

Martin Godden, 30, posted advertisements for ''rare 10-piece bargain buckets'' at a neat 1,000 per cent mark up.

Meanwhile, KFC is struggling to find charities to which it can donate thousands of tonnes of surplus chicken that has been stored in an unregistered depot during a supply crisis that has closed 160 stores for almost a week, inquiries by the Guardian suggest.

On Wednesday, the fast-food chain said it would have to destroy at least some of the chicken at a cold storage facility in Rugby, Warwickshire. The facility is run by DHL, which has a troubled supply contract with 900 KFC outlets.

The depot would be registered on Thursday following an emergency visit by Rugby council inspectors on Tuesday.

KFC says it is trying to minimise the amount of chicken it will have to destroy due to the closures and has approached at least one food charity regarding the surplus.
