The Maharashtra government today signed a memorandum of understanding with Transport For London (TFL), for developing a 150-kam-long metro network in Mumbai, the country's commercial capital.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) commissioner Rahul Asthana and TFL capital programmes director David Waboso signed the MoU for developing the 150-km metro network in Mumbai today.

Earlier, a delegation of British CEOs led by Prime Minister David Cameron had signed a broad agreement with the Maharashtra government for undertaking various projects in the state.

Transport for London (TFL) has been running the world's oldest tube rail transport system for the London Metro for the past 150 years.

Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said that British participation in Mumbai's mega-infrastructure initiative would be a prelude to more such infrastructure initiatives in the state.

"Our vision is to transform Mumbai into a world-class metropolis with globally comparable infrastructure and quality of life. Towards achieving the vision, a comprehensive transport and business plans has been prepared," Chavan said.
