Marjiuana focused technology company to purchase 120-acres California town

A marijuana-focused technology company has purchased an entire town of 120 acres at a reported price of about $5 million.

American Green Inc, plans to make Nipton the country's "first energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination," the company said in a statement.

Nipton, in Calfornia, is an hour's drive from Las Vegas and more than three hours from Los Angeles. The town has a hotel, general store and schoolhouse, and has its roots in gold and silver mining along with ranching.

The town has a population of only 20.

According to American Green it plans to initially focus on bottling cannabis-infused water in the town. According to commentators, the production of marijuana edibles and the cultivation of cannabis will not be far behind in American Green's 18-month, $2.5 million development time frame.

Visitors will find mineral baths, lodging, marijuana retail outlets and "a first-of-its-kind eco-tourism experience for conscious cannabis consumers."

The company plans to transform the old Gold Rush town into what it calls "an energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination."

According to the current owner of the town, Roxanne Lang, the sale was still in escrow she confirmed American Green was the buyer. She chose to remain silent on the price before the sale closed but noted that she and her husband, Gerald Freeman, now deceased, listed the property at $5 million when they put it up for sale last year.

When she was asked what her husband would think of the buyers' plans to turn Nipton into the pot paradise of the California desert, she laughed and said, "I think he would find a lot of humor in that," AP reported.

She added that as a libertarian, Freeman had no problem with people using marijuana. He was also a proponent of green power, and would favour energy independence. Over the years, he had installed a solar farm himself that supplied much of the tiny town's electricity.
