Chennai: Sandwich panel manufacturer MeTecno India Private Limited will inaugurate its $12-million plant at Sriperambudur near Chennai on 4 July, 2007. The facility will produce four sandwich panels – viz., Glamet (roofing panel); Monowall (wall panel); Firgowall (cold storage); Monoroof (for roofing).

Addressing the media in Chennai on Tuesday COO Anup Dave, said, "We look forward to producing 1.8 million sq.m sandwich panels per year in cut lengths ranging from 2 meters to 15 meters. This gets translated into a production capacity of 6000 sq.m / day. This capacity is 10-12 times higher than the capacity of a discontinuous line which will ensure timely delivery of consistent quality sandwich panel to the customer."

Dave hopes the company would garner a market share of 40 to 45 per cent in three years. The company targets to post a turnover of Rs750 crore in five years time. He said the Indian plant would also look at other Asian markets. This is the group''s sixth plant in Asia.

Sandwich panels are two-steel / aluminum sheets with polyurethane foam as the core material and in India are used in the cold storage industry for walls and ceiling insulation. MeTecno is an international group that operates in the field of pre-fabricated construction equipment.

The group has moved away from the conventional method of manufacturing sandwich panels. The continuous line method used for production ensures high quality of output.
