More papers go missing in Mumbai’s Adarsh scam

More papers have been found missing in Mumbai's Adarsh Housing Society scam. According to a report, Central Bureau of Investigation sources say they did not receive a few documents from the defence estates office, which maintains defence land records.

Though the CBI has got most of the documents related to the land from the defence estates office, there are apparently many documents that were not handed over to the CBI.

These include the correspondence leading to the grant of a no-objection certificate (NOC) to Adarsh and records showing the existence of a defence built garden on the site of the plot allotted to Adarsh. However, the CBI was able to get many of these documents from the local Army headquarters.

Meanwhile, the Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society has replied to an environment ministry show cause notice for alleged violation of norms, and the ministry will take a decision on it today.

''The society has given a reply to the showcause notice. We will take a decision on it tomorrow,'' minister of state for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh said on Sunday.

Earlier, the Mumbai police registered a case in connection with the theft of key documents in the Adarsh scam. The case has now been transferred to the Crime Branch due to its serious nature, and an internal departmental enquiry has also been ordered.
