Nokia, Microsoft seal Windows Phone deal

21 Apr 2011

Nokia and Microsoft have sealed a deal finalising Nokia's commitment to the Windows Phone platform, which will result in a new global mobile ecosystem.

The deal, finalised ahead of schedule, brings together the complementary assets of both companies.

In fact, a Microsoft release said, Nokia has already started incorporating the Windows platform on its phones and the new devise will be ready for delivery this year itself, while volume shipment will start next year.

"The good news is that not only was the deal finalised ahead of schedule, but work by Nokia in cranking out their first Windows Phones is progressing rapidly--however, Microsoft is still projecting "volume device shipments in 2012", the release said.

"The pressure is on for first delivery in 2011", according to another blog post.

Nokia and Microsoft announced significant progress on the development of the first Nokia phones incorporating Windows Phone. The two companies are now working on the portfolio of new Nokia devices, the release said.
