Nokia Siemens Networks sign MOU with Tamil Nadu government to set up new plant

Nokia Siemens Networks, a subsidiary of the Nokia Siemens BV, today, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a production facility at the SIPCOT Orgadam high-technology special economic zone in Tamil Nadu, over three years.

The company plans to invest Rs300 crore for the plant, which will manufacture mobile phone equipment and other telecommunication equipment.

 The plant at Oragadam will be the company's second establishment in the country after the Kolkata facility. It will be manufacturing mobile phones and other telecommunication equipments and would employ around 400 people in the facility.

Tamil Nadu will now become the hub of telecom industries with the arrival of Nokia Siemens. Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and several leading telcommunciation equipment manufacturing companies have set up plants in Tamil Nadu.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by M F Farooqui, state industries secretary and Suresh Wadhwani, director of Nokia Siemens, in the presence of Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi.

Nokia Siemens Networks, established in 2006, is a leading provider of communication services. The company comprises the former Networks Business Group of Nokia and the carrier-related businesses of Siemens.

The company is one of the leading vendors in the telecommunications infrastructure industry with a total revenue of  Euro17 billion as on calendar year 2006.
