Patel Engineering consortium bags Rs3,859 crore contract

A consortium of Patel Engineering Ltd, BHEL and Navyuga Construction has bagged the Rs3,859 crore Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation - Package 6, the largest single irrigation project contract, form Andhra Pradesh government.

The project will divert 160 TMC of water from river Pranahita to irrigate an area of 12,20,000 acres in the drought prone areas of the Telangana region.

The project involves investigation, designing, construction and maintenance of approach channels, tunnels, pumps houses, electro mechanical and pipe line works, Patel Engineering said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The project will be commissioned in 48 months.

"As scheduled we will be commissioning the Beehma lift irrigation project stage I by end of February, 2009 and Kalwakurthy lift irrigation stage I by end of January, 2010," Patel Engineering managing director Rupen Patel said.

He said the company will be bidding for larger projects to enhance its portfolio. ''Our focus will continue to remain in high margin area like hydro power and irrigation, both in India and worldwide,'' the release added.
