PetSmart recalls one production lot of Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food

11 Feb 2017

US specialty pet supplier PetSmart is recalling one production lot of its Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food over concerns of metal contamination posing a choking hazard to dogs.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates food for animals in much the same way it does for humans, announced the recall late yesterday.

The company recalled the product after it learned about the problem from the manufacturer, which had received complaints from consumers. PetSmart itself had not received any complaints and there had also been no reports of illness or injury.

The canned dog food was being sold on PetSmart.com, Pet360.com, PetFoodDirect.com and through PetSmart retail stores across the US.

The company said, the recalled products included Grreat Choice dog food sold between 10 October, 2016 and 7 February 2017.

The recalled product, Grreat Choice Adult Dog Food with Chicken & Rice Classic Ground in 13.2 oz cans, had a "Best By" date of 8/5/19/

According to the company, no other Grreat Choice products were impacted by the issue.

The company has advised against feeding the recalled food to pets and customers who purchased the recalled food could bring any remaining cans to their local PetSmart store for a full refund or exchange.
