PM weak to initiate action on Raja: Swamy

17 Nov 2010

After the Supreme Court posed the inconvenient question to the prime minister regarding the delay in taking action in the 2G spectrum scam, former law minister Subramaniam Swamy said though the PM was not involved he was politically weak to take any decision.

Swamy stated yesterday that he was not saying the PM was corrupted but he was too weak to initiate any strong action.

He also said the court had clearly said the prime minister must answer as to whether there had been a delay in acting against Raja.

During the hearing on the scandal, the court had raised the issue whether the sanctioning authority for initiating action against the minister could just sit on the complaint.

The prime minister's office had been approached by Swamy for permission to prosecute Raja and in the scam case, but was told by the PMO in 2010 that the case had been handed over to CBI for investigation.

However, the opposition parties have also questioned the prime minister's inaction in the matter for over sixteen months.
