Reliance Entertainment's Big Cinema to open in the US

Mumbai: Reliance Anil Dhirubahi Ambani Group media firm Reliance Entertainment Pvt Ltd (REPL) will start screening Indian  films in over 200 theatres in the US under it's Big brand  from next month.

The Big cinema chain of movies will feature Hindi and regional languages films from India, and movies from other Asian countries to cater to the large concentration of people from the Indian subcontinent and other parts of Asia, living in the US.

Big cinemas genre of movies will include mainstream Hollywood movies, art films, movies made by the independent producers  and more.

Over the last one year, Reliance Entertainment has acquired over 200 cinema halls in 28 North American cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit and Washington.

Reliance is spending money on improving infrastructure, such as sound systems and air-conditioning of the theaters, which are lesser quality sites and have been bought on a long-term lease.

These theatres will bear the company's entertainment brand name Big, and not Adlabs, as REPL's cinemas in India are called.

REPL is also planning to distribute movies overseas. With its line-up of  Hindi and other Indian regional languages movies, Big Pictures banner plans to strengthen its distribution venture through  exhibition outlets abroad.

REPL's cinema operations across different cities in the US, will go a long way in marketing Bollywood movies globally, and also help them reap to rake in revenues from the US box-office.
