SingTel wins $500 million ANZ contract

Singapore-based SingTel has bagged a $500 million contract for providing communication services to ANZ Australia. The company's Australian arm Optus will work with ANZ in Australia and 30 other countries in the region under the five year contract.

The contract for improvement of ANZ's network infrastructure will provide single platform delivery of voice, data and managed services to the bank's 34,000 staff in the region.

SingTel will deploy 40 video conferencing units and  over 20,000 IP telephones.

In Australia, Optus will implement a new data network to cover 850 ANZ retail branches and also manage its call centre infrastructure.

According to Bill Change, executive vice president of business Sing Tel the contract would consolidate the telco's presence in Asia.   He added it was an exciting time for SingTel as it supported ANZ's expansion in Asia.

Under the $100 million-a-year deal SingTel and Optus will supply managed network services to ANZ in Australia and 30 countries across Asia and the Pacific. The deal also covers ANZ's technology and operations centre in Bangalore in India.

The deal with SingTel will also power ANZ's  plans in China as part of its regional banking aspirations in Asia.

 With the contract SingTel has emerged as the ANZ's exclusive telco services supplier ahead of incumbents Telstra and Orange Business Services.
Before the deal, Telstra and Orange supplied the bank with local and global data services respectively.

According to the company the deal is one of the biggest contracts for Optus

According to industry sources the deal is similar to a contract that Telstra signed with the Commonwealth Bank two weeks ago.
