SJVN awarded 679 MW Lower Arun hydro-electric project in Nepal

Nepal has awarded the 679 MW Lower Arun hydro-electric project spread across the Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts of Nepal to SJVN, through competitive bidding, Nand Lal Sharma, chairman and managing director of SJVN, said on Friday.

The Investment Board of Nepal at a meeting chaired by Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli on Thursday (29 January 2021), awarded the project to SJVN.
Sharma said he had met Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, in Kathmandu and expressed his deepest gratitude to the prime minister for awarding the Lower Arun hydro-electric project to SJVN, He also assured the prime minister that the project will be completed in a time bound manner.
SJVN, Sharma said, was awarded the project through international competitive bidding, competing with several international companies, including from China.
The Lower Arun hydro-electric project is located in Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts of Nepal. On completion, the 679 MW Lower Arun hydro-electric project will generate 3,561 million units of electricity per annum.
Sharma further stated that the Projects being developed by SJVN in Nepal would result in overall development and boost economic growth in both India and Nepal. He said the Infrastructural Development related to project activities would ensure overall socio-economic development of the  region. 
SJVN is already constructing the 900 MW Arun 3 HEP in Nepal and 217km 400 kV associated transmission system. With the addition of Lower Arun hydro electric project, SJVN’s power generation portfolio now stands at 8,960.5 MW.
SJVN’s has an installed capacity of 2,016.51 MW at present and aims to be 5,000 MW company by 2023, 12,000 MW company by 2030 and a 25,000 MW company by 2040. SJVN has presence in various sectors of energy generation, which include hydro, wind, solar and thermal. The company also has a presence in the field of energy transmission.
