Stage 1 of Tehri hydro-power project commissioned

Mumbai: All units of the 1000 MW Stage1 of the Tehri Dam and hydel power project have now been completed and generation started union power minister Sushilkumar Shinde told the Lok sabha.

All the four units (unit IV, III, II & I) of Tehri Hydro Project Stage-I have been synchronised with the grid on 7 July 2006, 25 October 2006, 30 January 2007 and 19 March 2007 respectively.

Stage 1 of the project was scheduled to be completed by July ''05, according to schedule approved in November 2004.

However, due to rehabilitation and resettlement issues and rock fall in tunnel shafts, the commissioning schedule was again revised in February/March, 2006 to June 2006, July, 2006, August, 2006 and September, 2006 for each of the four units respectively.

During 2006-07, 891 million units of energy has been generated from the project against the target of 1,384 million units. The target for energy generation for the year 2007-08 is set at 2,773 million units and generation of 780 million units against the proportionate target of 713 million units has been achieved so far.

Phase 1 of the 2400 MW Tehri project (1000 MW) has already commenced power generation. Power generation from balance two projects of Tehri Power Complex viz. the Koteshwar HEP (400 MW) and the Tehri Pumped Storage Scheme (1000 MW) is scheduled for June, 2010 and June, 2011 respectively.
