Chennai: The fifth edition of Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) premier exhibition-cum-conference on the food processing industry, Foodpro 2003, will be held from 13 to 16 December 2003 at Chennai Trade Centre. Union Minister of State for Food Processing N T Shanmugham will inaugurate the event.

Foodpro 2003 chairman, and president and CEO, RPG Enterprises, P K Mohapatra says the highlight of the event will be the release of the updated Faida report on the status of food processing industry in the country. The Faida report was jointly prepared by CII and McKinsey and was released during Foodpro 1997.

"The updated report will take stock of India's achievement during the last six years in the food processing sector; the progress achieved in the sectors like poultry, wheat, dairy, fruits and vegetables; the status of food distribution and supply chain and the laws relating to the food industry," he says.

Apart from the exhibition where around 150 companies are expected to showcase their products, Foodpro 2003 will also hold two conferences — 'India as the Food Factory to the World' and Packcon 2003 — a conference on packaging for the global food market. CII expects around 25,000 trade visitors and 50,000 non-trade visitors for the event.
