Wine is fine, but bitter is better for the heart: Italian study

Beer, according to Italy's Fondazione di Ricerca e Cura, beer is not only good for the spirits but also for the heart.

However with one proviso, that drinkers follow the golden rule of the ancient Greeks – 'moderation in all things.'

In any case too much of a good thing can also cause harm.

The Italian foundation based its findings on the drinking habits of around 200,000 people.

They found that beer drinkers had a 42 per cent reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, while wine drinkers, on the other hand,  had a 31 per cent risk reduction,

Previous health studies had pointed to the health benefits ofantioxidants in red wine that reduced drinkers' risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
