Wipro picks Subex to facilitate Aircel operations expansion across India

Wipro Infotech, the India and Middle East IT Business of Wipro Ltd. and Subex Limited jointly announced today that mobile telecom services operator Aircel has chosen Subex platform for revenue assurance and fraud management in all the 23 circles across India for nine years.

Aircel, part of Maxis Communications Malaysia, is one of the fastest growing telecom companies in India, with a subscriber base of over 10 million. It operators in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Assam and currently operates across nine circles and has recently won a pan-India license to operate in 23 circles. It is looking to expand to 14 more circles within the country. With WiMax Operations in the top business cities across the nation Aircel also has clearance to provide International Long Distance (ILD) and National Long Distance (NLD) telephony services.

Wipro has a long-term outsourcing contract with Aircel, chose Subex, to provide the required network infrastructure to be implemented across all of Aircel's 23 circles. Subex's Revenue Assurance solution, Moneta TM and Fraud Management solution, Nikira TM will form the core of the implementation.

Wipro's financial results under US GAAP for its second fiscal quarter ended 30 September 2008 showed a total revenue increase of 36 per cent at Rs64.10 billion ($1.38billion) over the same period last year. Net Income was Rs8.22 billion ($177 million) on a GAAP basis.

The Non-GAAP adjusted net income (excluding impact of currency translation on foreign currency loan, related cross currency swap and India fringe benefit tax) was Rs.9.47 billion ($204million1), representing an increase of 17 per cent over the same period last year.

IT services revenues increase of 36 per cent at Rs. 47.34 billion ($1019 million) over the same period last year which was higher then its guidance of $1,089 million. IT Products business recorded a 44 per cent growth in revenues over the same period last year and EBIT grew by 26 per cent. Consumer care and lighting business revenue grew 36 per cent over the same period last year and EBIT grew 23 per cent.

Last week Wipro had announced that its Business Process Outsourcing division, Wipro BPO, was setting up a shared services centre for brewer AmBev, leading brands like Brahma, Becks, Stella and Antarctica. This centre will provide services to AmBev across Latin America in the areas of finance and accounting, order management, customer services and HR Services, to be provided from Wipro's facility at Curitiba in Brazil.
