Woman with two uteri to deliver twice within a week

A woman in US has been told she is due to have a boy and a girl who are not twins. Medical experts say that Angie Cromar from Murray, near Salt Lake City, Utah, has a rare condition called didelphys that means she has two uteri.

Didelphys (sometimes also uterus didelphis) represents a uterine malformation where the uterus is present as a paired organ, as a result there is a double uterus with two separate cervices, and sometimes two vaginas.

The chance of conceiving in both uteri is about one in five million. The number of double pregnancies in the world is said to be less than 100..

Cromar was told at her first ultrasound that one baby was five weeks and a day old and the other six weeks and a day.

Cromar and husband Joel, 33 already have three children aged under eight. She said she knew she had the rare uterine condition but it had not affected her other pregnancies.

However, she said she was somewhat nervous but excited all the same about the prospect of the double birth next year.
