16 Nov 2011

In a major relief to the embattled former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, the Karnataka High Court today granted anticipatory bail to him and his family members in connection with two complaints related to alleged irregularities in denotification of government lands.

Justice H Billappa allowed the bail applications moved by Yeddyurappa, his two sons BY Raghavendra, a Lok Sabha member and BY Vijayendra and his son-in-law RN Sohan Kumar who had apprehended arrest in two private complaints filed against them in the Lokayukta special court.

Granting them anticipatory bail, the court directed them to furnish a bond of Rs2 lakh and two sureties for a like sum.
The complaints had been filed by advocate Siranjin Bhasha who alleged denotification of land illegally by Yeddyurappa to favour his family members.

The former Karnataka CM had earlier been granted bail in two of the five private complaints regarding alleged illegal denotification of government lands.

Advocates Basha and Balraj had filed the private complaints after governor H R Bhardwaj allowed them to prosecute Yeddyurappa, the then chief minister.
