Amazon to set up fulfilment centre in Mumbai

Amazon.com, the largest internet retailer in the world, is setting up its first ''fulfillment centre'' in India, in a bid to break into the second most-populous nation in the world.

Fulfillment centres are giant warehouses that allow online retailers like Amazon, store many products, ship them and handle returns quickly.

The centre would be based out of Mumbai, India's biggest city, according to job listings on Amazon's India careers website.

Amazon ''has an immediate opening for an IT Manager in our first Fulfillment Centre based in Mumbai, India'' one recent listing said.

Another Amazon job posting called for a ''Stations Operations Manager'' to work for the fulfillment centre team in Mumbai.

The online retailer was on the lookout for a financial analyst in Mumbai to report to a general manager and controller and help the fulfillment center operate more efficiently and predictably.
