Flipkart launches customer version of PayZippy

18 Dec 2013

Flipkart's payment solutions subsidiary, Flipkart Payment Gateway Services (FPGS), has launched the customer version of its payment gateway PayZippy, which would allow online consumers to store their card information and use it for making online payments on merchant sites, The Economic Times reported today.

This would relieve consumers of having to enter card information across sites each time they made an online purchase. In July, the company had launched the gateway for merchants and mobile sites.

The solution is seen as an attempt to wean online customers away from cash-on-delivery, a payment method used for 65 per cent of all online transactions.

According to Mekin Maheswari, head of payments and digital media at Flipkart, with PayZippy the company had actually cut the time taken for making online payments by 50 per cent. He added the company expected at least 150,000 customers to sign up for the service in a month.

He said the company's target was to get 1 million customers by next June.

Apart from Flipkart, customer would be able to use the platform to make payments at sites like MakeMyTrip, Travelyaari, Bluestone, Justeat and Lenskart.

The launch of the customer version of PayZippy follows just days after online marketplace Snapdeal announced it was planning to launch a similar payment gateway.
