Fujitsu and Symantec Corporation today said that they plan to expand their global strategic partnership in order to better serve their customers in their core areas of data protection, storage management, and information security.

Under their agreement, Fujitsu plans to combine its high-performance Eternus storage systems and Primergy servers with Symantec's data management and storage management software products.

The companies will jointly provide solutions integrating both their products and services to help customers reduce their data centre management and  optimally utilise their existing IT investments. They aim to help a cross section of customers - from medium-sized enterprises to large companies - cut down on their costs, and better fulfil their variegated information and risk management requirements.

While building on the healthy base of each company's strengths and maximising synergies between the two, Fujitsu and Symantec aim at further extending their businesses globally with the possibility of jointly developing products for the global market never far.

Masami Yamamoto, corporate senior executive vice president said that combining Fujitsu's storage and server products with Symantec's storage software, server management and data protection would enable the two companis to offer a more competitive range of solutions.

Fujitsu is in the midst of extending its infrastructure business to global markets, developing combined global brands, products and services for the basic structure and features of server and storage solutions.

''Our customers continue to face flat or decreasing budgets in light of exponential information growth,'' says enterprise products group president Greg Hughes of Symantec. ''With this enhanced relationship, Fujitsu and Symantec intend to more tightly integrate our solutions and services to help customers improve hardware utilisation, reduce complexity, and improve operational visibility," he adds.

The agreement is also in keeping with Symantec's strategy of maximising value for its customers through partnerships with major global hardware vendors and systems integrators.
