Huawei launches new tablet, cloud phones in India

Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei has introduced, MediaPad, a new tablet and two new Cloud phones- Huawei Sonic and Huawei IDEOS X3 in the Indian market. The launch of the tablet follows its announcement of the device at the CommunicAsia in June, 2011.

All three devices feature Huawei's Cloud+ service with 16GB Cloud disk for storage; better messaging with Message+ (to share texts, pictures, videos and voice notes). They also come with Phone Finder to locate, back-up or lock the devices; Cloud gallery for easier viewing and sharing; Huawei Streams for integrated social phonebook experience; Huawei app store for apps; sync data and over the air (OTA) Solution for OS upgrade.

The tablet comes with a price tag of Rs28,359 while the mobile phones are priced Rs9,210 (Huawei Sonic) and Rs 10,229 (Huawei IDEOS X3) respectively. Further all three devices come with 3GB of download for 3 months with telecom operator Aircel.

According to P Sanjeev, sales director at Huawei Devices, the company remained on track with open market progress in India and was confident of achieving its objective of emerging amongst top 5 OEM handset brands worldwide and in India over the next three years.

The company, with only 6-7 devices in its portfolio as of now was also looking at expanding its product range aggressively in the next few months.

Huawei marketing director (devices) Anand Narang told PTI that the company launched its devices earlier this year and by December-end, it would have 10-odd devices. He added India was a very important market for the company and it was aggressively expanding its product-line here.
He said next year, the plan was to have 20-30 devices in its portfolio.

Huawei was also looking at a larger retail presence with around 10,000 outlets across more than 50 cities.
