India, US sign MoU for cooperation in cyber security

India and the United States have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of cyber security. Aruna Sundararajan, secretary, ministry of electronics and information technology and Richard Verma, US ambassador to India signed the MoU in New Delhi on Wednesday
Under the MoU the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT- In) under India's ministry of electronics and information technology and the US Department of Homeland Security will assist each other in the field of cyber security.
''The MoU aims to promote closer co-operation and the exchange of information pertaining to the cyber security in accordance with the relevant laws, rules and regulations of each economy and this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit,'' an official release said.
Earlier, the United States and India had signed an MoU on 19 July 2011 to promote a closer cooperation and timely exchange of information between the organisations of their respective governments responsible for cyber security.
CERT-In and US CERT have been sharing information and discussing cyber security related issues on a regular basis since 19 July 2011. The latest MoU is in continuation of this cooperation.
