Whatsapp to roll out delete message feature: report

13 Sep 2017

Whatsapp is now working on eliminating the embarrassment of sending indiscreet messages, by making it possible to delete them. While other messaging apps like Telegram, WeChat and Viberdo offer the option of deleting sent messages from a thread, Whatsapp users had no such option until now. According to reports, Messenger might soon roll out a new feature that will allow users to delete the messages from the thread.

According to reports by TNW and TechRadar, a new feature called WhatsApp Delete is in the works, which will allow its users to delete messages that have been sent by mistake before it is read by one's contact. According to the reports, the tests are already underway on Android and iOS devices.

However, it will take some time before this feature is out there for everyone to use. The report claims the feature appeared in an August beta version of the app for Windows Phone, which could be taken as a clear sign that it will be rolled out for the Android and iOS devices soon.

According to commentators, the news comes only days after it was reported that WhatsApp will soon launch business tools for enterprises to help them to communicate with their customers.

Meanwhile, a report in The Independent suggests that users will be able to recall messages within five minutes of sending them. In addition to text messages, the recall features will work for images, videos, GIFs, and documents. However, the recall feature will work only for messages that have not been read by the receiver.

According to experts, Whatsapp has been testing the ability to recall messages for quite some time now. It was revealed earlier by WABetaInfo that the feature will be remotely enabled in 2.17.30+ of the app. While Version 2.17.30 is available on App store, the Recall feature has yet to be rolled out.

The new Recall feature will likely be available for both iOS and Android users simultaneously.
