French consulting group Egis looking at acquisition in power sector

25th November 2013: India has emerged as a key market for the EGIS Group, the French infrastructure and engineering consultancy major.

Egis Group chairman Nicolas Jachiet, says, ''India has emerged as the largest Egis Group subsidiary clocking over 30 per cent growth every year.  In order to further drive growth in this market, we are looking at an acquisition in the power sector.''

In India Egis is one of the major consulting services provider in the infrastructure sector. It is currently executing 108 consulting assignments in the country at an estimated total value of Rs878 crore, in varied sectors like the metro rail projects in Chennai, Kochi and Kolkata; Hyderabad outer ring road; 1048-km long Ganga Expressway; Mumbai Master Plan VISION 2034 and ports in Daman & Diu.

It also operates tolled roads in India.

In FY 2012-13, Egis India had a turnover of Rs166 crore, which the French group expects to rise to Rs400 crore in the next five years.

In 2013 calender year Ergis expects an order intake of Rs380 crore from India.  ''We plan to double our head count over the next three years,'' says Jachiet.

The Egis Group, with a global turnover of $1.2 billion in 2012, has a presence in over 100 countries. Over 50 per cent of its turnover comes from its overseas business.

It provides engineering, project structuring and operations services. In engineering and consulting, its sectors of activity include transport, urban development, building, water, environment and energy. In roads and airports its offer is extended to encompass project development, capital investment, turnkey systems delivery, and operation and maintenance services.
