IREL, Kazakhstan’s UKTMP to set up joint venture titanium slag unit in Odisha

IREL (India) Ltd, formerly Indian Rare Earths Limited, has entered into an agreement with Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant JSC, (UKTMP) of Kazakhstan to set up a joint venture in India for production of Titanium slag.

The joint venture, IREUK Titanium Limited, will undertake beneficiation of low grade ilmenite to high grade titanium feedstock with the aim of creating a titanium value chain in the country.

The joint venture, to be set up in Odisha, will also create employment opportunities in the state.

It will also enhance the brand value of both IREL and UKTMP, while acting as a growth engine for India and Kazakhstan in the titanium value chain.

UKTMP will provide the technology for the production of Ti Slag and utilise an agreed quantity as input at its Ti sponge plant.

IREL has a surplus of Ilmenite at its Odisha operations.

UKTMP is one of the world's largest vertically integrated titanium producers, with operations in raw material extraction to production of high value-added products such as titanium sponge and ingots. 

UKTMP exports 100 per cent of its titanium products to highly developed countries. The company supplies quality products that are certified by major global aerospace companies, including Boeing and Airbus.
