Engineering and construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Wednesday said its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division has won new orders in the Middle East and Africa for setting up high-voltage power transmission lines.

The orders, which, among others, include the implementation of an energy management system for countrywide electricity grid in Kenya, is estimated to be valued between Rs5,000 crore and Rs10,000 crore.

L&T will be working as consortium member with a leading original equipment manufacturer to build a new National System Control Centre for Kenya. The transmission hub will integrate various power generation sources and manage the despatch of power flow on preferential basis.

Kenya is adding to its power generation capacity through new and renewable sources and connecting these to a national grid and creation of battery storage systems are key to efficient use of electricity so generated.

Such a control centre will ensure stable, efficient and reliable power supply in Kenya’s grid for ensuring stable, efficient and reliable power supply in the country.

Besides, the orders also include the implementation of back-up system for energy at a remote location.

The Middle East orders are for construction of high-voltage transmission lines in Saudi Arabia, on a turnkey basis.

L&T has also received additional orders for Gas Insulated Substation for an ongoing power system expansion project in Qatar.
