Delhi government asks Reliance discom to pay up Rs1,300 crore dues

The Delhi government has asked Reliance-Infrastructure backed BSES to pay up around Rs1,300 crore in dues immediately, failing which stern action might follow including snapping of power.

According to top government officials, the company had been told to clear the dues to two power generation companies run by the Delhi government within two-three days.

Delhi government-owned generation companies, Pragati Power Corporation Ltd (PPCL) and Indraprastha Power Generation Corporation Ltd (IPGCL) supply around 330 MW of power, which is then distributed to nearly 70 per cent of the areas by BSES discoms BYPL and BRPL.

PTI quoted unnamed top officials as saying that BSES had been told to pay up the dues of around Rs1,300 crore within two-three days as the government was faced with a severe financial situation.

They said that both PPCL and IPGCL had been asking BSES to pay up the dues for last one year but the payment had not been made.

The development comes as state-run DVC said it would have to cut power supply to Delhi, as BSES Rajdhani Power (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL) had not yet made the outstanding payments to the company.
