Nifty closes flat after hitting 5000 mark; RIL down 4.5 per cent

The Nifty closed flat after hitting the landmark of 5000. It was a choppy day of trade where the Nifty traded in a narrow range of 4950-5000 for the most part of the day. The index heavyweight Reliance Industries was the biggest dragger for the indices. Selling was also seen in oil & gas, realty and metal stocks. However, buying was seen in IT, auto, banks and capital goods.
The Sensex closed up 34.07 points or 0.20% at 16711.11. It touched an intraday high of 16,820.02 and an intra day low of Rs 16,636.55.
The Nifty ended down 9.80 points or 0.20% at 4948.60. It touched an intraday high of 5003.05 and an intra day low of Rs 4944.15 . The Nifty had touched the 5000 mark first time on Sept 27, 2007.
About 1233 shares advanced, 1591 shares declined, and 379 shares were unchanged.
Top losers on the Sensex were Reliance at Rs 2,086.35 down 4.45%, Tata Steel at Rs 521.15 down 1.97%, ITC at Rs 228.60 down 1.02%, NTPC at Rs 208.40 down 0.71% and Hero Honda at Rs 1,663.15 down 0.65%.
However, top gainers on the Sensex were ACC at Rs 827.95 up 3.65%, Hindalco at Rs 136.05 up 3.62%, Jaiprakash Asso at Rs 247.40 up 3.28%, Bharti Airtel at Rs 433.15 3.13% and Maruti Suzuki at Rs 1,559.35 up 3.08%.
