Sensex inches towards 16000; Hindalco shines

The Sensex was inching up towards the 16,000 mark amid choppy trade, led by index heavyweights Reliance, Infosys, Bharti and BHEL. However, fall in L&T, ICICI Bank and ONGC limited the upside. The Sensex was quoting at 15927.26. Meanwhile, the Nifty rose 11.5 points to 4,776.

Index heavyweights Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel and BHEL gained around 1.5%. Infosys and HDFC rose over 0.5%.

Jindal Steel and Hindalco topped the buying list, rising 2-3%. TCS, HUL, NTPC, Wipro and Tata Steel were marginally higher.

However, L&T was down 1.85% and ICICI Bank lost 0.8%. Hero Motocorp too dropped over 1%. ONGC slipped 0.3%.

The broader markets - BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were down 0.7% each. Nearly two shares declined for every share rising on the BSE.

In the second line shares, Vaarad Ventures, Mcleod Russel, Pfizer, Aurobindo Pharma and BOC India were up 2.5-5%. However, Sintex Industries, Pantaloon Retail, Nava Bharat Ventures, Essar Ports and GSFC slipped 5-7%.
