Sensex slips further; Bharti, Hindalco tumble

The Nifty continues to struggle around the 4900 mark. All sectoral indices were trading in the negative terrain. The BSE capital goods, auto, oil & gas, power and realty stocks had plunged and the BSE broader indices were down nearly 1% each.

The Sensex was down 243.85 points or 1.50% at 15969.61, and the Nifty was down 75.35 points or 1.55% at 4791.35.

About 796 shares have advanced, 1745 shares declined, and 1198 shares are unchanged.

Top losers on the Sensex were down Bharti Airtel at Rs 343.20 down 4.32%, Hindalco at Rs 126.50 down 4.13%, Tata Power at Rs 91.80 down 3.62%, Jaiprakash Asso at Rs 61.20 down 3.39% and SBI at Rs 1,809.80 down 2.91%.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 737.40 down 2.39% from its previous close of Rs 755.45.

Top gainers on the BSE Midcap: Greaves Cotton, Aurobindo Pharma, Vaarad Ventures, Dewan Housing and 3M India were up 2-3%.
